5×12 Telehandler Man Basket – Heavy-Duty Work Platform

Built in Calgary, Canada, our 5×12 telehandler man basket provides a spacious steel work platform for construction, framing, siding, and industrial maintenance. This Heavy-Duty model combines fold-down side panels, three-sided fork pocket access, and a reinforced steel frame. Choose a hot-dip galvanized finish for corrosion protection or bare steel for painting yourself.

The basket is supplied with drawings reviewed and stamped by an Alberta professional engineer (P.Eng.). Its design incorporates features intended to address applicable OHS requirements. Before purchasing, you can forward the stamped drawing to your local OHS or site safety officer for review of your intended application.

Heavy-Duty Steel Construction

Manufactured from more than 100 structural tubing components, the basket combines 2×2-inch and 2×1-inch steel tubing with 4×8-inch structural fork pockets. The welded rear guardrail forms a permanent part of the platform, while the side panels and toe boards are removable for servicing or replacement.

The basket has a 6,000 lb platform load rating. This is not a statement of your telehandler’s lifting capacity. The basket’s own weight and its contents must be accounted for when checking the machine’s permitted personnel-platform configuration and applicable load limits. Three-sided fork access does not establish an identical lifting capacity in every direction.

Fold-Down Sides with Reinforced Support

Both side panels fold down to provide approximately 42 inches of additional clearance at each end for ground-level access and loading. Each panel uses three heavy-duty hinges, a support chain connected to the rear structure, and support from two fork-pocket extensions underneath when lowered. These features support the open panel and help limit sagging.

The support chains also allow the panels to be pulled upright from inside the basket while it is on the ground. Custom T-pins secure the raised panels, and secondary retaining pins keep the T-pins from lifting out. Steel cable tethers connect the T-pins to the basket and the retaining pins to the T-pins, keeping the hardware accessible and reducing the risk of loss.

Side panels may only be opened while the basket is resting on the ground. Before lifting, all panels must be raised and locked, and the front chains and toe boards must be secured. Folded-down panels are not an extension of the elevated working area.

Expanded-Steel Floor and Protective Panels

The floor uses 9-gauge raised expanded steel with small mesh openings. Its textured surface helps improve traction, while the open mesh allows water to drain through instead of pooling on a solid deck. Snow, ice, and debris must still be cleared before use.

The 42-inch-high side and rear guardrails define the platform enclosure. Expanded-steel side panels and a 13-gauge expanded-steel rear screen help reduce the risk of larger tools and materials falling through the enclosure, including toward the telehandler.

Each basket includes a pair of removable toe boards and two front safety chains. Toe boards help contain loose items at floor level, while the chains form part of the front barrier. These features do not replace the required personal fall-protection system.

Fork Pocket Access from Three Sides

Fork pockets are accessible from the rear and both ends, providing flexibility for positioning and handling. Each pair has a standard 48-inch outside-to-outside spacing. The pockets are manufactured from 4×8-inch structural tubing; this is the tubing size, not the clear internal opening.

Two hitch pins are included. Installed behind the fork heels, they block the basket from sliding off the forks. The same pair of pins can be used with each of the three fork-entry directions.

Hot-Dip Galvanized or Bare Steel

• Hot-dip galvanized: The fabricated steel components are galvanized for corrosion protection. Vent and drain openings allow cleaning solutions and molten zinc to reach the inside of the hollow tubing, protecting both internal and external steel surfaces. Small fabricated components are included in the galvanizing process, and the supplied pins, hinges, and chains also have protective coatings.
• Bare steel: Supplied without galvanizing, paint, or primer for customers who prefer to prepare and paint the basket themselves while reducing the initial purchase cost.

Platform Size and Overall Dimensions

The 5×12-foot designation is the nominal platform size. Including projecting components, the overall dimensions shown in the dimensional drawings are approximately 162 inches long × 72 inches wide × 49 inches high. Approximate basket weight is 1,300 lb.
